Spray Tan Packages: How to Price Packs and Memberships

A spray tan package is a set number of tans a client pays for upfront at a lower price per session. A spray tan membership is a recurring monthly charge that includes a set number of tans each month. Price packs from your single tan price, set clear expiration and transfer terms, and track every redemption.

Spray tan packages let your clients prepay for a set number of tans at a lower price per session, while a spray tan membership charges them a fixed amount every month for a set number of tans. For a spray tan artist, packages bring revenue in upfront and memberships make income more predictable; both need clear pricing, written terms and a reliable count of sessions left.

This guide is written for spray tan artists setting up their menu. If you are a client shopping for a package, the examples below show what a typical pack includes and what terms to ask about before you buy.

Spray tan package vs spray tan membership

A spray tan package is a bundle of prepaid sessions bought once and used over time, while a spray tan membership is a recurring charge, usually monthly, that includes a set number of tans each billing period.

How to price a spray tan package

Price a spray tan package by starting from your single tan price and taking a slightly larger discount for each larger pack.

Illustrative example, not market pricing. Assume a single tan costs $50.

PackageDiscountPrice per sessionPackage price (paid upfront)Client saves vs singles
Single tanNone$50.00$50.00$0.00
3 pack10%$45.00$135.00$15.00
5 pack15%$42.50$212.50$37.50
10 pack20%$40.00$400.00$100.00

Formula: package price = single price x (1 - discount) x number of sessions. For the 5 pack, $50 x 0.85 x 5 = $212.50.

Before you publish a price, check the lowest per-session figure (here $40) against what one tan really costs you: solution, disposables, travel if you are mobile, and your time. A deep discount on a 10 pack is only a good deal if you still earn on the tenth tan.

Prepaid revenue is not profit yet, because you still owe those sessions. A salon price list maker helps you show singles and packs side by side so clients can compare.

Package terms to set before you sell

Package terms are the written rules for how a prepaid package can be used, and they belong on your price list, your checkout page and the client's receipt.

Not legal advice. Some states have gift card, gift certificate or unclaimed property rules that may apply to prepaid services, including limits on expiration dates. Check your state's rules, and have your terms reviewed where appropriate, before you sell packages.

Decide these points:

  • Expiration. How long the client has to use the sessions, if your state allows an expiry.
  • Transfers and sharing. Whether one pack can cover a partner, a friend or a bridal party.
  • Refunds. Whether unused sessions can be refunded, and at what per-session value. Using the per-session package price, not the single price, keeps the math fair.
  • Missed appointments. Whether a no-show or late cancellation uses up a session. Say so plainly, and link it to your no-show policy.
  • Service scope. Which tans the pack covers (for example a standard full body tan, not a rapid or contour add-on) and whether travel fees are extra.

How to design a spray tan membership

A spray tan membership works best as a fixed number of tans per month for a fixed monthly price, with a written rule for unused tans.

Illustrative example. A membership at $40 a month includes one tan, the same as the 10 pack rate. A client on the plan for 12 months pays $480. A two-tan tier at $75 a month works out to $37.50 per tan.

Set these rules:

  • Rollover. Can an unused tan move to next month? A common approach is to allow one rollover tan that expires at the end of the following month, so balances do not pile up.
  • Minimum term and cancellation. How much notice the client gives to stop, and whether the current month is refunded.
  • Extra tans. What a member pays for a tan beyond the monthly allowance.

Event and bridal spray tan packages

An event or bridal spray tan package is a one-time bundle built around a date, usually a trial tan before the event plus tans for the bride and her party.

Price each part (trial tan, bride's tan, each party member, on-location fee) separately so the bride can see what changes if one bridesmaid drops out.

Because these bookings hold a date, many artists take a deposit when the date is agreed and the balance before the event. Have every person in the party complete their own intake and consent form before tanning, not only the bride.

How to track remaining sessions

Tracking remaining sessions means recording every tan used against the package so there is one balance you and the client both trust. For each redemption, record the date and who was tanned, and tell the client the new balance.

How KadePay handles spray tan packages and memberships

KadePay is a free booking and payments app for solo service pros, and it includes prepaid packages with remaining-session tracking.

  • Selling packages. Clients buy a package through a link or QR code.
  • Redemptions. You record each redemption and check the remaining-session count for that client.
  • Scheduling is separate. Buying a package does not book a tan. Clients still send an appointment request through your booking link, and you review and confirm it.
  • Fees. Package administration and processing fees apply.
  • Memberships. Recurring billing requires the Team or Pro plan. It does not schedule visits or track how many tans a member has used, so you track allowances and rollovers yourself.
  • Mobile tans. Tap to Pay lets you accept contactless payment on a compatible phone with the KadePay app configured, with tipping on the digital bill. You can also send a payment link.
  • Deposits. For bridal and event dates, send a deposit-only bill or let the party pay part of the full bill up front as the deposit.
  • Forms. Intake and consent forms can go out before the appointment. Clients sign in to KadePay to complete them.

The $0 monthly plan includes 60 booked appointments each month, then $0.15 per appointment. Usage and payment fees apply.

What KadePay sees spray tan artists get wrong with packages

These are patterns the KadePay team hears from beauty pros, not survey results.

  • Selling packs before writing the terms. The expiry or refund question comes up months later, when nothing was agreed.
  • Pricing the 10 pack from the discount, not the cost. The headline saving looks good, but the last tans in the pack barely cover solution and travel.
  • Keeping the balance in two places. The artist has one count and the client remembers another.

When packages or memberships are not the right fit

If most of your clients tan once a year for a holiday or event, a membership will not sell; a single price plus a bridal package may be enough. If you are still testing your pricing, hold off on 10 packs until you know your real per-tan cost.

If you want packages, booking requests and payments in one place, you can start free with KadePay.

Frequently asked questions

How much should a spray tan package cost?

Start from what you charge for one tan, then take a modest discount for each larger pack, often deeper for 10 sessions than for 3. Check that the lowest per-session price still covers solution, travel and your time. Prices vary widely by city and by mobile versus studio work, so compare against your own costs rather than another artist's menu.

Should spray tan packages expire?

Many artists set a use-by window so old balances do not sit on the books for years, but the rules for prepaid services differ by state. Some states limit expiration dates on gift cards or prepaid credit. Check your state's rules, then print the window on the receipt and in your policy so the client sees it before buying.

Can clients share a spray tan package?

That is your call, and it should be written into the package terms. Some artists allow sharing within one household, which helps bridal parties and families, while others keep packs tied to one person so intake and consent forms match the client being tanned. Whatever you choose, record who used each session.

Is an unlimited spray tan membership a good idea?

Unlimited plans can work in a studio with spare booth time, but they are risky for mobile artists, where every visit costs travel time. A fixed number of tans per month with a clear rollover limit is easier to price and staff. If you do offer unlimited, cap it with a minimum gap between tans.
